Beam Shear Moment Diagrams
Introduction to Beam Shear Moment Diagrams
In the analysis and design of beams, such as the one shown, it is critical to know the magnitude of shear and bending moments along the length of the beam.
Though the values of shear and moment can be determined at any point along the length, it is best to have a graphical representation of the each along the entire beam length. The graphical representations of the magnitudes of shear and moment are known as beam shear moment diagrams.
What you will Learn
This free lesson will cover two methods for developing beam shear moment diagrams. The first method is using generalized equations, and the second method uses area techniques.
